Disc Brake Conversion?
« am: 24. Januar 2011, 23:41 »
The brakes on my Iltis suck.
I hate adjusting brakes.
I see in the for sale forum there are some brake disc conversions for sale.
Was this a common conversion?
I like the idea, I wonder if it would be possible to buy the brackets and buy the discs, calipers, pads here to save on shipping?
Or were they a special item and I had better buy those quick (if they are still for sale?)

its not street legal here
and i only know 3 conversions done

this idea sucks, learn adjusting brakes!
have i mentioned before, that i do condemn conversions?

btw
all conversion parts are available in UK, standard VW parts
there should be a list in wiki? with neccessary parts and donors

I can adjust brakes, it's my job, I just don't like to!
I like "fit and forget"
:)
Brake conversions here are no problem, we can pretty much do anything we want with cars here so long as it meets our quite basic safety test (MOT) which is once yearly.
We do not have to mark any modifications on our log book (V5, same as your Fahrzeugbrief, sorry, probably spelt wrong but I'm sure you understand)
I have not seen the info in the WiKi? do you have a link?

Intesresting link, thank you.
I'm not sure about using Toyota brakes though!
Can the brackets be bought?
Does anyone have the plans?

N'Abend Simon,

sorry but I've never got a plan ;): Possibly you should contact him directly (f.e. via PN: Mouse-Click on the User-Name "micha" and then choose "Privatnachricht senden")?

Cheers
Volker

P.S.: Want you to hear my honest opinion? Tobias is right: Adjust the original drum breakes at times.

Hi,
Micha wanted to use double sided brackets. He got access to a Toyota Hilux that was the basis for one of the VW Caddys at that time. You can buy those brakes but I doubt that this is economical interesting. I would rather go for the Brakes from some Audi 100 or Audi 80.

Regards,
Marc

what are "double sided brackets"?

4 piston calipers?`4 kolben bremssättel?

i guess, if you use golf 5 discs, you may also use golf 5 calipers...??
actually i'd also would have a look at mercedes front axle brakes... maybe.

Yeeees, 4 piston calipers - thanks, Tobi ;-)

Unfortunately, there are not too many VAG cars that have those 4 piston calipers - at an affordable price. I would look for a conversion from an Audi 100..A6/A6.

Marc
