Diesel alternator [Lima]

Okay.
I have a 24v Iltis.
I have a 1.9TD "AAZ" engine in it.
I used the petrol 24v alternator, with little success, I cannot keep the belt tight and it wears too quickly.

I have been looking into the component parts of the alternator, and it appears that I can take the drive end bracket from a Iltis TD alternator and fit it to my petrol alternator and it will work with the 1.6TD belt system I have.
I cannot find a new, or used drive end bracket to do this, I have a Bosch number for this item but it is obsolete.
I can buy a brand new alternator from Bosch, for around ¤700, but they are out of stock and are not due till late september and I also cannot spend that amount of money on an alternator!

I was hoping to take the drive end bracket from a Golf GTD 90a alternator but it appears the brackets are on the wrong place even though the Iltis and the Golf share the same alternator mounting bracket [141 T]

Now, I have a rather large catalogue that lists each alternator that one of my suppliers sells, before I start going through it to find any possibilities does anyone know of an alternator that works?

A component of the alternator.
The aluminium housing nearest the pulley, the aluminium housing that carries the mounting lugs.

In English they are described as "Drive end", i.e the end nearest the pulley and "Slip ring end", the end nearest the commutator.

I have now found an alternative alternator that has bolted straight on.
There are only a few small differences, which are of no real concern.

1. The pulley supplied is for the multi rib belt type. Direct swap for golf pulley.
2. It is 45a rather than 55a. I have no electrical auxiliaries, this does not concern me.
3. The B+ terminal is M6 rather than M8, no big deal.
4. The adjusting lug is 15 degrees further away, easily remedied with a shorter belt.
5. The upper mounting bracket is 5mm shorter than the vw item, easily fixed with 2x flat washers.

At the moment I do not know what it is from but I will update this later incase this information is useful to someone else.

The best part is the price, it cost me less than ¤100 brand new, no exchange.
For those considering a diesel conversion it is worth considering.

Hi Buddy,
don't know why this happens. My mechanic changed in 2 or 3 Iltis to AAZ motor. However, most of them were diesel allready (1,6td), so maybe the diesel alternator is different in it's mounting? I'll check with him next week.

You might also want to consider a 12V convertion and moint the original AAZ alternator. You would need:
- alternator
- starter (Audi 100 diesel with gearbox included in it)
- fans (peugeot 205 or audi 80 tdi)
- bulbs
- wiper motor (VW181, later years)
- fuel gauge (12V civil Iltis or mexico beetle)

Im happy with the 24v for the moment.
The alternator I listed above is now fitted and working fine, im happy!

Interesting to hear 205 fans may work, ill remember that!
