Testing the fuel level sender?
« am: 21. Juni 2012, 19:06 »
Does anyone know what resistance readings I should get from the Iltis fuel level sender unit?
My gauge ready very low.
I have bridged the connections at the sender unit and achieved a full tank, disconnected it is empty, I'm fairly sure the wiring and gauge are okay.
I have removed and inspected the sender unit and nothing appears to be broken and there is a circuit through it, I think there must be a high resistance somewhere.
I have looked through the Wiki [as best an English man can!] but couldn't find anything.
:)
Simon.

Did you read this?

Due to the level (left) the sender unit suppose to have the (right) resistance.
The Wiki recommend to clean the contacts with e.g. a wire brush or sand paper to avoid a too high resistance. The resisitance from contact to contact suppose to be 80 Ohm.

If do you need any further translation of the Wiki, don´t hestiate to ask!

Hi.
I had 10 minutes spare after work today so I removed the fuel level sender.
I tested the resistance as per the data in the Wiki.
I found that all the readings were 130? too much.
I then found a high resistance between the connection terminal and the brass rivet that goes through to the inside of the sender unit.
It was 130? !!
So, tomorrow I will soda blast this area and try and get some solder on without melting the insulation.
Almost fixed.

All repaired.
Working again.
Fixed by a simple blob of solder between the terminal and the rivet.
All good again.
