After getting my Iltis running, I notices a noisy joint on the drive train.
Today I removed the prop shaft (cardan shaft?)
I have measured it and spoken to GKN.
Dimesnions
25 splines
32mm deep
100mm outer diameter
6 holes
86mm PCD (bolt circle)
holes to suit 8mm bolts.
Loebro No - 301142
But then that number crosses over to lots of items!

I am unsure of the heat treatment on the item listed above, the Iltis joint seems to have a black harnened finish, GKN do not have a listing for this part so they could not confirm if the item listed above.
The part above is dimensionally correct, it will bolt on and work.
-
you should remember that wheel joints do not properly work in cardan joint due to different angle of work
-
hmm, GKN themselves gave me the part numbers and did not mention this?
Maybe it's the black industrial finish on the joint that makes this different from a normal constant velocity joint?
I will ask further..
-
computerpeople :)
just disassemble the two joints (prop + cardan) and compare the ball paths
there you will see a very varied path
-
Sorry, Tobi-Iltisteile,
I don't understand your arguments.
Of course, one should never use a constant-velocity-joint with a too small max tolerable angle.
But the working angle of the wheel joints is bigger than that of the cardan (=prop shaft).
So, where's the problem?
it's not about the angle but about the load capacity
-
I understand.
It's not the angle (that's what I read from your input yesterday) but the load capacity. Shaft has to drive two wheels.
