Ignition timing.
« am: 28. April 2012, 23:41 »
Hi.
I'm just trying to improve on the engine I just installed, it's a bit slow compared with the AAZ 1.9TD, which I wasn't expecting.

So, I'm just going through making checks and adjustments trying to make the best of what I have.

I read the wiki, but through google translate, and it didn't make too much sense.

Is the ignition timing setting set to zero? This seems unusual to me.

Could not see any other timing marks other than the pins in the flywheel, do these relate to anything?

Yes,

the ignition timing is set to "0°" in idle (round about 850 to 950rpm).
Some guys adjust the timing up to 5° advance-ignition.
Therefor you need an adjustable timing-strobe-pistol, because
as you already detected, there is just the "0°" mark on the flywheel.

Welcome to the petrolers :)
When we want to drive a diesel, we order a taxi :D

My strobe died a few weeks ago so I have borrowed a very cheap, nasty one! It doesn't have an advance function
Does anyone happen to know the diameter of the flywheel? If I can find that I can make some more marks on the flywheel.

Today I went off road, I really miss the torque of the diesel. The diesel was much easier to drive off road than the standard petrol.

I also need to buy a new silencer. It expired when I had the diesel in so I replaced it with a jetex silencer, which was fine with the diesel but with the petrol it is too noisy as I don't have the smaller silencer, as I said before it sounds like a MKII Escort with a "peco" exhaust! Horrible!
If I fix the exhaust it may give a little more pleasure to drive!

On the plus size, I have been faster than 80kmph more than once, which is nice!

Is this helpfull?

It´s from my 1.6 TD engine, but I´ve been told that it is the same like the gas engine fly wheel.

P.S. I had a little time and was bored, so i just removed the engine to take this picture, just for fun...:D

I hope you measured the diameter before it went back in!
If I have the diameter I can put some degree marks on it and set the timing with this terrible strobe light!
I just hope this flash tube u ordered from turkey or wherever u ordered it from fixes my digital strobe!
