:)
It took a little work but I managed to post eventually.
Before I jump in and start asking questions I thought it only polite to introduce myself.
My name is Simon Baxter, I live in the UK (and only speak English, sorry!)
I run a small workshop specialising in VW T3 and T4 models, we also sell some spares on the internet - www.brickwerks.co.uk
I also run a web forum for VW commercials (Nutzfarzeug?) www.brick-yard.co.uk
Why am I here? I wanted a toy, a new project, something to look interesting in my workshop, after looking for a T3 syncro and not being able to afford one (they are getting really expensive and most of the UK ones are trashed) I broadened my search.
There were a couple of Iltis on UK e-bay but they were either too far away or expensive, I chanced upon one that was on e-bay as an unfinished project.
I bought it.
You can see the progress here - www.iltis.co.uk

As we didn't get the Iltis in the UK there is no technical data available, so I'm trawling though German amnuals trying to pick info from it but I have very helpfully been sent a English manual, thanks for that!
It's silly things, fuses, tyre pressure, etc that I need.

As for my Iltis, it has been stored since a German military base in the UK closed down in 1996 (Castle Martin)
It has never been registered in the UK so I am awaiting my "Urkunde" from the Automuseum in Wolfsburg so I can set wheels in motion.

Anyway....

:)

Simon.

Dear Simon,

wellcome in the German Iltis forum. :-)
I have no Iltis documents in English and I do not know if they are available because the car was sold to the German Army, only. (+300 zivil cars).
Maybe in Canada you can get the requested documents in English because Bombardier produced the Polecat for the Canadian Army.

Best regards,
Gunther

Baxter

I has just loaded the disc that came with the Iltis, it is indeed the Canadian manuals, so i am skimming through to get the information that I need.
thanks.
Simon.

... and don't forget to ask the "Grandiosus(002)" ;) [= The user Uwe(002) in this forum here] for more information: uwe.gniffke@rbs.com
He's got a great collection of Iltis-documentation - The greatest worldwide, I think.
No, I'm absolutely wrong: Of the universe! :D

The vehicle landed Tuesay, one week ago, I found this website and e-mailled Uwe!
he was my first contact!
:)
One week in, I have a few updates, you can view the pictures at www.iltis.co.uk

Where would I look for steering geometry data?
Looking at it there only looks to be the track that is adjustable, unless I am missing something?

Ich denke Baxter sucht Informationen zur Spur-Einstellung ... Ich hab' da keinen Dunst

Baxter

I think only tracking is adjustable, and I can always just set to zero.

Snoop

Hi Simon,

at the front axle there is only one tie-rod adjustable (right-side).
You need to set the left front-wheel (0), clamp the steering wheel
and adjust the right tie-rod to (0) (+5° to -5°) for the complete track.

The rear axle has adjustable tie-rods for both wheels.
Setting: -25° to +5° for the complete track.

If you see positive or negative vertical differences - learn to deal with it
and welcome in the X-wheel club! ;)

VW used to have bushings with excentric holes for that problem, but they are out of stock since years...

Administrative order:
Please do not become to much off topic in your threads.
This is a "Hello from UK" thread,
nobody expects technical questions at the end of it...

Hope you understand.

MacSchreck

Hello,

the number for the exentric bushings is 183 407 181 A. Try to get some, tell me if you could.

Greetings

Markus
